George’s
Choral Society was formed in 1817 at St. George’s Church,
Stuyvesant Square, to “promote the performance of sacred
choral music.” Since then, it has become an institution
independent of the church, and offers opportunity for individuals
to sing and participate in one of the premier choruses in New
York City. SGCS offers two concerts annually, rehearses weekly
on Wednesday evenings, employs outstanding section leaders, and
offers volunteer positions for its members.
