FAQ

How do I schedule an audition?
We will hold auditions at our first two rehearsals for the fall and spring concerts. Contact Artistic Director Dr. Matthew Lewis at info@stgeorgeschoralsociety.org to schedule a slot.

Do I have to prepare for my audition?
Relax! All of us have gone through what you'll go through. Just bring a piece of music that you like to sing.

Are there annual dues?
Yes. Annual dues cover our two-concert season and include scores. Members are also obliged to purchase four concert tickets for each concert. If these fees pose financial hardship, please speak with Matthew.

Do you need my voice part?
All voice parts are welcome to audition.

Do I have to be a trained singer?
All members should be able to sing on pitch in accurate rhythm. Sight-singing skill at some level is essential. Our group is comprised of singers of varied abilities and we provide professional section leaders for rehearsals and concerts to ensure an advanced level of choral singing.

What musical experience should I have?
Previous experience is preferred but your skills will improve, as our rehearsals provide excellent guidance in singing and considerable music education. Attending local Summer Sings is a great way to brush up on your sight-reading and choral singing.

What are the Chamber Singers? How do I join?
Chamber Singers are a select group made up of professional singers and choir members with advanced skills, who are expected to learn basic musical elements and diction on their own. Anyone can audition for the Chamber Singers. Audition requirements will be announced during rehearsals.

What is the Summer Choral Festival?
We welcome both Choral Society members and non-members to take part in our two-week intensive Summer Choral Festival. During the month of June, singers attend four rehearsals and a dress rehearsal prior to the performance. Find out more.
