George’s Choral Society—one of the oldest choral groups in New York City—was founded in 1817 to promote the performance of sacred choral music. The Choral Society, no longer religiously affiliated, holds rehearsals in the chapel of St. George's Church, Stuyvesant Square, and performs concerts in the Church's sanctuary and at the Church of the Incarnation.
The Choral Society performs fall and spring concerts accompanied by a professional chamber ensemble or orchestra. Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Matthew T. Lewis is also organist and director of music at the Church of the Incarnation in Manhattan, organist and choir director at Temple Israel in Lawrence, NY, and a member of the organ faculty at Westminster Choir College and the Juilliard School Pre-College Division.
